Starbase, Louisiana: A Big Deal for Civil Engineering & Construction

SpaceX’s planned $100 billion Starbase, Louisiana isn’t just a space project—it’s a major infrastructure opportunity for the civil engineering and construction industry.
With construction expected to begin in 2027, the 125,000-acre development will require roads, utilities, site development, drainage, power, industrial facilities, logistics infrastructure, and significant coastal and environmental work.
SpaceX announced plans to construct a $100 billion Starship rocket launch complex in southern Louisiana, transforming 125,000 acres of coastal wetlands on Pecan Island into Starbase, Louisiana. This massive facility will significantly expand SpaceX’s Starship operations beyond current sites in Texas and Florida.
The site will be a self-sustaining spaceport, including propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping, vehicle processing, and possibly an airport. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the first launch expected in 2029.
The site, over eight times the size of Manhattan, will reportedly create over 3,000 jobs in the region. Governor Jeff Landry praised the initiative as transformative for the state’s economy and environmental resilience.
