Summary:

Supports daily accounting operations with a strong focus on job costing, inventory, vendor management, and invoicing. This role works closely with the financial controller, project managers, and office personnel to ensure financial accuracy across all projects and yard activity. The staff accountant plays a key role in supporting daily activities, operational decision making, and maintaining clean financial records. This is an ON-SITE position.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable – Assisting our AP accountant with weekly check runs and onboarding new vendors into the accounting software.

Accounts Receivable – Prepare customer invoices based on completed work and contract milestones, monitor AR Aging for outstanding balances to support collection efforts, and receive/enter customer checks.

Compliance – Assist with external audit and tax compliance.

Financial Coordination – Work directly with the financial controller to support reporting, budgeting, and analysis and long-term financial success through managing cash and loans.

General Ledger – Post journal entries, reconcile accounts, and assist with the month-end close process.

Job Costing – Support project managers by opening/closing jobs and assist in updating jobs for financial accuracy and completeness.

Payroll – Support our payroll employee through weekly hours reporting and verification.

Process Improvement – Assist management in identifying inefficiencies to help refine processes and workflows throughout the Shipyard.

Qualifications:

Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

1-3 years of experience – Construction industry helpful

Experience in cost accounting is preferred.

Proficiency with accounting and accounting adjacent software – ViewPoint Spectrum experience preferred, Excel experience required.

Strong attention to detail and proficiency in maintaining a proper audit trail.

Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
