Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Visual Basic Software Engineer to assist with the translation process of a legacy application used by the Office of Developmental Disabilities at the state government. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in modernizing and enhancing the existing system, ensuring its continued efficiency and effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

·        Analyze and understand the existing codebase of the legacy application

·        Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

·        Translate the features of the legacy code base into new technology utilizing Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Basic, and the ASP.NET Framework.

·        Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code adhering to best practices and coding standards.

·        Leverage T-SQL to interact with databases and perform data manipulation and retrieval operations.

·        Enhance the user experience by implementing JavaScript and jQuery functionalities for dynamic and interactive web components.

·        Ensure the application’s visual appeal and responsiveness by utilizing CSS and HTML.

·        Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve code quality and maintainability.

·        Collaborate with testing teams to ensure the application’s functionality and performance meet the required standards.

·        Provide technical support and guidance to other team members as needed.

Mandatory Technical Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience working as a .NET Application Developer with the following technologies:
  • Visual Basic
  • ASP.NET Framework
  • SQL and T-SQL
  • JavaScript frameworks such as VueJS or AngularJS
  • HTML and CSS
  • JSON, REST, and WebAPI
  • Bootstrap and jQuery
  • Version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodology and experience working in Scrum environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-centric approach.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements and priorities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and contribute to team building activities.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·        Certification in .NET development or related technologies

·        Experience with legacy system modernization or migration projects

·        Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines

·        Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes

·        Experience utilizing Messaging Architectures like RabbitMq

·        Experience utilizing backlog management tools like Jira

·        Experience with Distributed Design Systems (SOA/Microservices)

·        Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices for web applications

·        Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and deployment strategies

·        Understanding of software testing methodologies and tools
