Business Development Manager – Rail

Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Manager to join our dynamic team in the rail industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, developing, and driving new business opportunities within the rail sector. This role requires an individual with a deep understanding of the rail industry, a strategic mindset, and the ability to foster long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Market Research & Analysis:
- Conduct in-depth market research to identify new business opportunities, trends, and customer needs within the rail industry.
- Analyze competitive landscapes, customer requirements, and emerging technologies to position the company’s offerings effectively.
Lead Generation & Sales:
- Identify and generate leads for new projects and contracts within the rail sector.
- Develop a pipeline of potential clients, working to convert leads into active business opportunities.
- Collaborate with the sales team to create and implement strategies that drive business growth.
Client Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, contractors, suppliers, and industry bodies.
Strategic Partnerships & Networking:
- Identify and develop strategic partnerships with key players in the rail industry.
- Attend industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to stay updated on trends and expand the company’s presence in the market.
Proposal Development & Tendering:
- Work closely with the technical and project management teams to ensure the feasibility and profitability of bids.
Business Strategy & Reporting:
- Work closely with senior management to develop and implement the company’s business development strategy.
- Provide regular updates and detailed reports on sales performance, market trends, and competitor activity.
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of the rail sector, including infrastructure, track construction, and transportation regulations.
- Proven ability to develop and execute business strategies.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and proposal writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in CRM tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
Travel: Ability to travel regularly as required to meet with clients and attend industry events.
Desirable Attributes:

- Knowledge of government regulations and funding mechanisms related to the rail industry.
