Position Overview
On behalf of a long-time client of ours, PCG is looking for an experienced HR manager. The HR manager is a critical, hands-on leadership role responsible for driving a high-accountability HR function that elevates employee experience, strengthens frontline engagement, and supports ongoing company growth across 8 locations in 4 states (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida). Operating in a growth-oriented, family-owned company, this position requires a “doer” mentality. We are looking for someone who takes 100% ownership of the department. Managing a team of two direct reports and supporting approximately 270 employees, the HR manager works closely with leadership to maintain a positive, practical, and highly responsive work culture.
Key Responsibilities
Departmental Leadership & Ownership
- Take end-to-end accountability for the HR function, balancing strategic development with direct tactical execution.
- Direct and mentor two direct reports
- Identify operational inefficiencies across the employee lifecycle and implement practical, high-impact improvements.
- Drive culture and employee engagement initiatives within an organization known for long-term retention and low turnover.
- Support acquisition due diligence and post-acquisition HR integration as the company expands its footprint.
Hands-On Benefits Administration & Open Enrollment
- Own the annual Open Enrollment process and benefit renewals, working in close partnership with external brokers and executive leadership.
- Administer health, wellness, and 401(k) benefit plans for non-union personnel.
- Maintain sufficient knowledge of union benefit structures to answer crew questions accurately and coordinate with union plan administrators.
- Employee-First Service Ethos: Serve as a direct point of contact for employee questions regarding benefits and paychecks; cultivate a high-touch environment that eliminates deflection.
Labor & Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary operational contact for day-to-day labor relations, grievances, and disciplinary actions aligned with applicable CBAs.
- Read, interpret, and apply CBAs across various unionized populations.
- Partner with the CEO, CFO, General Counsel, and outside labor counsel on labor management issues and strategy.
- Serve as a core member of the collective bargaining negotiation team, preparing relevant HR metrics, labor data, and analysis.
- Develop a practical understanding of marine/crew compensation models in coordination with the Payroll SME.
Compliance, Audits & Metrics
- Drive and fully manage annual 401(k), payroll, and compliance audits, ensuring external auditors receive required documentation promptly and resolving any roadblocks independently.
- Maintain full compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations across LA, MS, AL, and FL.
- Track and present HR operational metrics (retention, time-to-fill, employee relations trends, and process efficiency) to support management decision-making.
- Oversee workplace safety administration, post-accident physicals, medical appointments, and right-to-work determinations.
Talent Acquisition, Development & Culture
- Lead full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for onshore and field roles.
- Roll out and manage the company’s multi-phase employee wellness program and university internship program.
- Evolution and oversight of modern performance appraisal processes that encourage accountability and high performance.
- Integrate basic AI tools and modern software workflows to streamline HR task execution and reporting.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressive HR management experience. Proven experience in growing or acquisitive environments preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Mindset: Extreme ownership, personal accountability, and high drive are non-negotiable. Must thrive in an autonomous environment without micromanagement.
- Benefits Expertise: Proven track record leading Open Enrollment and managing benefit plans directly.
- Labor Relations: Experience working alongside unionized workforces (grievance handling, CBA administration, and supporting union negotiations) is strongly preferred.
- Systems Proficiency: Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms required (experience with UKG Ready is a plus). Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and basic AI tools for workplace efficiency.
- Multi-State Compliance: Knowledge of employment laws across LA, MS, AL, and FL.

Travel, Schedule & Working Conditions

- Travel Requirements: Minimal travel required. Occasional day trips or short visits to other locations to maintain frontline visibility and relationships.
Compensation & Perks

- Bonus: Up to 10% annual performance bonus.
