Senior Estimator – Heavy Civil (Self-Performed Work)
The Personnel Consulting Group is looking for a Senior Estimator for a leading civil and marine contractor based in South Louisiana. For over five decades our client has built complex infrastructure across the Gulf South with an unwavering focus on safety, quality, and precision.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator who can bring deep technical estimating experience to lead the bidding process from early review to final submission, ensuring our self-performed crews are set up for success.
In this role, you will take full ownership of the bidding and preconstruction process. Your primary focus will be constructing accurate, competitive bottom-up estimates for our extensive self-performed capabilities.
Core Estimating Scopes:
- Underground Utilities & Drainage: Storm drainage, water mains, sewer lines, and pump station infrastructure.
- Earthwork & Coastal Protection: Levee construction, canal work, and specialized coastal/marine projects.
- Foundations & Marine: Pile driving, sheet piling, and structural support.
- Concrete: Structural concrete, slab installations, flatwork, and public works concrete infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Bid Leadership: Drive the full bidding process, performing detailed quantity takeoffs and building highly accurate cost models.
- Cost Analysis: Develop realistic labor, equipment, and material cost estimates specifically tailored for self-performed field crews.
- Estimate Modeling: Input and build bids using HCSS Heavy Bid software.
- Risk & Value Engineering: Identify cost drivers, potential project risks, and value engineering opportunities.
- Collaboration: Align closely with Preconstruction, Project Management, and Operations to ensure seamless bid-to-build handoffs.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: 7+ years of dedicated estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
- Technical Expertise: Strong background pricing self-performed work in underground utilities, pile driving, levee work, concrete, drainage, water, and sewer.
- Project Intelligence: Ability to read, interpret, and dissect complex civil/marine plans, geotechnical reports, and contract documents.
- Mindset: A strong leader and clear communicator who thrives under tight deadlines and enjoys collaborating with project teams.
